Maria and Barry.

Maria comes from Spain and Barry is from Ireland, they met in Edinburgh. Both of them are passionate about their work, Barry about pharmacy and Maria about chemistry.

My project is called “The Neighbours” and by photographing people who are living in Scotland I am trying to show a richness and cultural diversity of this country.

I am curious about people’s stories and their past. Very often I am discovering links between Scotland and other countries. Historical and modern factors had a big influence on how Scottish society looks today and I believe that it is important to have a record of current processes inside of it and also to remember about past events (e.g. Second World War) which brought people from countries like Poland and many other ones to Scotland. I have a strong interest in capturing people in their own environment.

It’s a long-term project and I am seeing it in a form of a book accompanied by interviews with my models.
